Our dedicated team is here for you and your pets
Kalamunda Veterinary Hospital has long been established in the Perth Hills. In April 2009, John and Tracy Houghton bought the practice with the intention of striving to promote excellent service and quality veterinary care for our patients. This has been made possible by our fantastic team of dedicated and professional staff, modern diagnostic facilities and extensive experience in Veterinary Medicine.
You and your pets require us to be here for you and to provide for your needs in an efficient and caring manner.
Our goal is to provide excellent medical care in a setting that is relaxing for you and your pets, to provide exceptional service and to have fun doing what we love.
Updated 2/5/2020: Essential services remain open. Until we are advised otherwise we will be here for you and your pets.
Here are some guidelines to help both humans and animals stay safe and healthy.
If you are not healthy or may have had exposure to Covid-19
If your pet needs veterinary attention and:
• You have been overseas within the last 14days.
• You’re experiencing symptoms of Covid-19.
• You are, or you should be, in self-isolation.
Please phone us for advice and we can make a plan in line with social distancing recommendations.
If you fit into the category above we ask you to:
• Limit the number of people presenting your pet to just one owner.
• When arriving for your appointment, please wait in your car.
• Please phone us from your car on arrival and we can return the phone call to welcome you into the clinic when it is your turn. A nurse will come out to the car to collect your pet.
If you are healthy and have not been exposed to anyone with Covid19
Please use the hand sanitiser provided to clean your hands on arrival at reception then use soap and water to wash your hands when leaving the consult rooms.
Please phone ahead to order required prescription medicine repeats or food, worming and flea control in advance so we can arrange to have them ready for you without the need to wait.
For many years we have been working on ways to expand our facilities to you with as little impact as possible.
That has turned out not to be the case – there is some impact!
After years of planning and negotiation with builders and the City of Kalamunda we have finally begun our renovations.
Built with you in mind
To improve our facilities for you and your pets our new building will have;
• Separate dog and cat waiting areas
• A dedicated cat consulting room
• Spacious dog consulting areas
• A larger reception area with two receptionists on duty to serve you more efficiently
• A visiting room so that you can spend time, in private, with your hospitalised or recovering pet.
• A public toilet that you can fit into!
• Larger dog and cat kennels
• Two operating theatres
• And most importantly a new staff room
It’s been impossible to avoid the inevitable inconvenience associated with building. During the next 6 months it’s going to be impossible to have a nice car park. That’s going to be the last improvement we make, towards the end of the year. Please bear with us during the next few months. Any inconvenience you experience now will be overshadowed by the improved service you'll experience once it's all done!

Our recommendation that you consider pet insurance for all of your pets. Pet Insurance is an easy and affordabe way to help budget for unexpected vet bills when your pet is injured or ill. Guild's Vet's Choice Pet Insurance is the only Pet Insurance endorsed by the Australian Veterinary Association. They have a local Perth based account manager who can deal with any enquiries you might have and all claims are managed by a dedicated, veterinary qualified, claims specialist. In addition once you've obtained pre-approval with Guild's Vet's Choice Pet Insurance it is possible to ONLY PAY YOUR EXCESS, Vets Choice will pay the balance directly to us saving you from having to pay up front and then claim later. Visit their website to see if this product is right for you.
Our commitment to communication
In order to provide the high level of service that you and your pets deserve and expect we would like to invite you to communicate freely with us. We would like to regularly contact you to ensure that we keep tabs on your pets health and will do this personally either by mail, email, text message or a phone call. Knowing that you also don't want to be harassed we will keep this communication to a level that is not irritating to you but that still keeps us in touch with you and your pets.
